A German Circular Turned Wood Aneroid Wall Barometer

A circular aneroid wall barometer of German manufacture. The instrument is housed in a dark-stained turned wood case and features a brass suspension loop at the top for wall mounting. The cream-coloured dial is designed with a central circular aperture that reveals the internal brass aneroid mechanism. The outer scale is graduated from 28 to 31 inches of mercury. The dial is printed with decorative, partially coloured gothic-style lettering indicating weather conditions: Stormy, RAIN, Change, FAIR, and Very Dry. It is equipped with a black steel indicating hand and a brass-tone manually adjustable setting hand. The reverse of the case is incised with the mark MADE IN GERMANY. Similar examples are often attributed to the manufacturer Lufft.
