Description
A pair of glazed earthenware horse figurines manufactured by Beswick, England. The larger figurine depicts a draught horse, specifically a Shire Mare (Model 818), in a standing pose. It is finished in a gloss brown glaze with a black mane and tail, featuring yellow and white braided ribbons in the mane. The horse has four white feathered hooves and a white blaze on the face. The smaller figurine depicts a standing horse of a more slender hunter or thoroughbred type, finished in a matching gloss brown glaze with black points, a white blaze, and one white sock. Both figurines bear the circular Beswick mark on the underside of the belly, which reads BESWICK ENGLAND around a central vent hole. The smaller horse also retains a partial green and gold foil label.
