A pocket-sized edition of the Holy Bible, identified as a Nonpareil Reference Bible in 24mo format. The volume contains the Old and New Testaments and was published by James Askew & Son, Lancashire Book Stores, Corporation Street, Preston. The title page features the Royal Coat of Arms and specifies the inclusion of sixty thousand original and selected parallel passages and marginal readings, stated as being “Appointed to be read in Churches”. The book is bound in a black textured grain leather with overlapping yapp edges and “Holy Bible” lettered in gold on the front cover. A printed and handwritten presentation leaf is pasted to the front endpaper, documenting its presentation at Earby Wesleyan Sunday School on Christmas 1910 to Jennie Speak, signed by superintendents Tom Brown, William Pawson, and John W. Wilson. The text block is finished with red-under-gold gilt edges and includes a single purple silk ribbon marker.
