Description
A group of three two-tone glazed stoneware beverage containers, including one for Edge’s Ltd Botanical Brewers Oldham, dated 1948. All feature a distinct brown glazed top portion and an off-white lower body. The smallest item, a jug with a handle, is inscribed “TAUNTON KEG BLACKTHORN CIDER,” further marked “MATURED IN OAK VATS AT NORTON FITZWARREN THE HOME OF GOOD CIDER,” and has a unique slotted opening at its base. The second item, a larger bottle without a handle, is clearly marked “EDGE’S LTD BOTANICAL BREWERS OLDHAM” and states “THIS JAR IS THE PROPERTY OF EDGE’S LTD PLEASE INSERT STOPPER. RETURN WHEN EMPTY. AND OBLIGE. 1948,” and retains its black stopper. The third item, a large jug with a handle, bears the text “STANTONS BEVERAGES (ACCRINGTON) LTD.” and “ANYONE FOUND ILLEGALLY USING OR DETAINING THIS BOTTLE WILL BE PROSECUTED,” with a “SEAL OF QUALITY” emblem, and is also fitted with a black stopper.
