A Pair of Vintage Brass Handheld School Bells with Turned Wood Handles, Mid-20th Century

This lot consists of a pair of small school bells, traditionally utilised as handheld signalling devices for educational or domestic dinner settings. Each bell features a cast brass body characterised by a flared rim and decorative incised banding. The bells are equipped with ergonomic turned wood handles, which are further embellished with inset brass rings and a polished spherical brass finial at the terminal. The internal construction shows a traditional wire loop suspension for the clapper. While no maker’s marks or country-of-origin stamps are present, the style and assembly are indicative of mid-20th-century production. These functional items represent a classic example of vintage schoolroom equipment. Each bell measures approximately 105mm in height with a base diameter of 60mm.
