Description
A vintage Ellgreave stoneware lidded cooking pot in the Saxony pattern, produced by Ellgreave Pottery of Burslem. The vessel is finished in a glossy treacle-brown glaze and features a relief-moulded decorative band of stylised interlocking spirals and circular motifs in a folk-art aesthetic. The upper neck area is detailed with horizontal ribbing and is flanked by two small, integral lug handles. The base is impressed with the maker’s mark ELLGREAVE ENGLAND. This piece is a characteristic example of mid-century modern kitchenware from the 1960s-1970s, often associated with the Wood & Sons group. Height: approximately 16cm.
