Royal Doulton, Old Charley Character Jug

A large Royal Doulton ceramic character jug depicting “Old Charley, ” the traditional 19th-century London night watchman. The figure is modelled wearing a brown tricorn hat which forms the spout and rim, a dark green coat, and a white spotted cravat. The base features the standard Royal Doulton lion and crown backstamp with “MADE IN ENGLAND” and the interlocking “D” initials. It carries a green “A” production mark, dating the piece to between 1939 and 1955. The model name “Old Charley” is embossed in relief on the reverse of the base, and a small hand-painted black numeral “3” is located above the factory stamp. Height: 14cm.
