Ceramic Scottie Dog Cookie Jar, Tartan Collar Detail, c. 1990-2000

A large, stylized ceramic biscuit or cookie jar in the form of a seated Scottish Terrier, produced by MSRF Design Studio. The piece is finished in a deep, high-gloss black glaze. It features a decorative painted collar in a red and yellow tartan pattern, from which hangs a raised, gold-toned circular medallion embossed with the RF monogram of the manufacturer. The dog is modelled with characteristic upright ears and a chunky, modern silhouette. The head serves as the removable lid for the vessel. While the aesthetic is heavily influenced by mid-century promotional items for Black and White Scotch Whisky, this piece is a contemporary decorative kitchenware item.
