A Celtic Pottery Newlyn Phoenix Pattern Dish

A circular glazed earthenware studio pottery dish attributed to Celtic Pottery of Newlyn, Cornwall, featuring the Phoenix pattern. The piece is decorated with a central hand-painted abstract avian motif in dark green and black, positioned against a speckled white and blue ground. The wide yellow-ochre border is detailed with brown mottled sponge-work and abstract green foliate designs. The reverse is finished in a white glaze with five hand-painted green spirals around the underside rim. While no maker’s marks are present, the base retains three patches of white adhesive residue, likely from a former paper label.
