Lot 354:
Description
A rare early example of the vintage Totopoly horse racing board game, manufactured by John Waddington Ltd. of Leeds. This first edition set, marketed as “The New Game” by the manufacturers of “Monopoly,” dates to approximately 1938, as evidenced by the “Patent applied for” inscription on the original rule sheet. The game is housed in its original illustrated cardboard box and includes a collection of hand-painted lead horse and jockey playing pieces organised within a compartmentalised internal tray. The lot features a stack of yellow “Five” denomination play currency, “Owner’s Club Membership” cards, and “Trainer’s” cards. This set represents a significant piece of mid-20th-century leisure history, capitalising on the success of Monopoly with a sophisticated equestrian theme.
