Description
An early 20th century solid oak footstool, designed in the characteristic vernacular style associated with Robert Mouseman Thompson of Kilburn. This antique lattice leather topped stool features a rectangular seat composed of interlaced dark brown leather straps. The frame is constructed from solid oak with four robust ring-turned legs terminating in bulbous feet, all secured by a sturdy double-tiered stretcher base for added stability. The upper leg blocks are square-sectioned and surmounted by distinctive hand-carved rounded finials. The piece exhibits the honest construction and hand-finished quality typical of the English Arts and Crafts movement. 36cm x 40cm x 30cm.
