A vintage Hobbies of Dereham The Gem model scroll saw, originally designed for treadle operation and subsequently modified for electric power. The tool features a robust cast iron frame with raised lettering reading THE GEM on the main casting. It is equipped with long steel reciprocating arms and a circular metal work table. The original large spoked cast iron flywheel remains in place, now driven by an external electric motor. The motor is a modern white plastic-cased unit labelled SEW MOTOR YM-261C-9, 230V, 50Hz, 90W, 0.45A, and carries a CE mark. The reciprocating motion is transferred to the arms via a replacement wooden connecting rod.
