Lot 101:
Description
This lot consists of two traditional Scottish grouse foot brooches, typically worn as kilt pins or sporting accessories. The larger brooch features a preserved bird foot with white plumage, set into a white metal mount with hand-bright-cut thistle and foliage engraving. This mount is set with two faceted purple stones, one at the terminal and one claw-set into the foot. Stamped marks are present on the reverse but are worn and illegible. The smaller brooch features a foot with mottled brown and white plumage, set into a cast white metal mount with a thistle motif and a single faceted orange-brown stone. Both brooches are fitted with long white metal pins and simple C-clasps.
