Lot 39:
Description
An embossed brass cachepot or small planter, featuring a traditional tavern scene in the style of 17th or 18th-century genre subjects. The piece is constructed from a stamped sheet of brass with a visible vertical soldered seam. The decoration is executed in high relief, depicting a rustic interior with figures in historical dress, set against a background textured to resemble brickwork. The sides are further embellished with vertical bands of repeating circular motifs and bark-like textures. The base is stamped with the characters MADE IN ENGLAND. This style of decorative brassware is frequently attributed to manufacturers such as Peerage.
