Victorian style circular brass wall plaque with central copper lion mask

A decorative circular wall plaque or shield boss constructed from pressed brass. The item features a central separately applied copper-toned boss depicting a lion mask in high relief, bordered by decorative studs. The outer rim is embellished with eight evenly spaced embossed circular bosses. The reverse is fitted with a brass suspension loop for wall mounting and shows a heavy dark oxidation patina. This piece is characteristic of the Arts and Crafts or Gothic Revival movements popular in the United Kingdom during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. No maker’s marks are visible.
