Description
This rectangular jewellery box is constructed from black lacquered wood. The hinged lid features a high-relief scene composed of applied carved hardstone pieces, depicting two birds amongst a flowering plum blossom branch above a garden rockery. The scene is further embellished with hand-painted gilt highlights. The front, back, and sides of the box are decorated with gilt-painted scrolling foliate and geometric borders. The box is fitted with brass-toned metal hinges and a traditional ruyi-shaped lock plate with a twin-pin clasp. The interior is lined with a vibrant turquoise-blue fabric, featuring a divided tray with a ring-roll section and a larger compartment. A shaped mirror is set into the underside of the lid. No maker marks or reign marks are visible on the base or interior.
