Description
A mid-20th-century rectangular cigarette case manufactured in England by Standphast under the Emu Brand. The case is constructed from Gold-oid, a gold-toned metal alloy designed to resemble gold. The exterior features a fine engine-turned decorative pattern throughout, with a small rectangular cartouche to the front cover engraved with the initials G L. The interior of the lid bears a detailed presentation inscription reading TO GEORGE FROM followed by two columns of names: GEORGE B., FRANK A., CHARLIE, JACK C., BRIAN, ALAN, TATE, SID and GEORGE M., FRANK U., JACK W., RAMMY, WATT, NEIL, TOM, ACK. The interior base features several stamped marks including STANDPHAST, GOLD-OID, MADE IN ENGLAND, and PAT NO 592790 around a central diamond-shaped logo containing an emu and the words EMU BRAND. The model name Beverley is engraved in cursive script in one interior corner. The case is fitted with two spring-loaded retainer bars.
