An Assortment of Decorative Lacquer, Marquetry, and Papier-Mâché Boxes

This collection consists of several decorative boxes constructed from various materials including wood, lacquer, and papier-mâché. A prominent item is a rectangular Russian-style box featuring a malachite-effect exterior and a hand-painted oval winter landscape depicting an Orthodox church on the lid, opening to reveal a characteristic red-lacquered interior. Also included is a wooden playing card box with a parquetry-style inlaid border and a King of Diamonds motif on the lid, containing a deck of Golden Phoenix cards. A square wooden box displays floral marquetry on the lid and is lined with red velvet. The group contains two small rectangular boxes with painted floral lids and red interiors. Furthermore, there are two Kashmiri-style hand-painted papier-mâché boxes, one circular and one square with rounded corners, alongside a circular green lacquer box with red and white scrollwork patterns. No visible maker’s marks, signatures, or inscriptions are present on any of the items.
