Description
This is a matching pair of Edwardian sterling silver salt cellars and two accompanying salt spoons, presented in the original fitted case. The salt cellars are of circular form with ornate repoussé decoration comprising scrolling foliate patterns and C-scrolls over a fluted ground. The rims are crimped and wavy. The interiors of the salts feature a bright gilded finish. The spoons feature plain circular bowls and ball finials. The set is housed in its original red leatherette-covered presentation case with a blue velvet and silk-lined interior. Each component is struck with a clear set of hallmarks, including the maker mark W.D for William Devenport, the anchor symbol for the Birmingham Assay Office, the lion passant for sterling silver, and the lowercase date letter c for 1902.
