Hake (20th Century), Autumnal River Landscape, Oil on Canvas

This work is an oil on canvas landscape painting. The composition depicts a tranquil autumnal river scene with mature trees rendered in shades of ochre and burnt sienna bordering a calm body of water featuring a rocky outcrop. The technique employs stippled impasto brushwork to suggest the texture of the foliage, contrasting with a more blended, atmospheric treatment of the pale yellowish sky. It is housed in an ornate, moulded gilt-finished frame featuring scrolling rococo-style corner and centre cartouches and a linen-lined inner slip. The verso of the canvas is stapled to a wooden stretcher, which bears the handwritten inscription F 7519 and the dimensions 16X20.
