Lot 755:
Description
A lot consisting of two dark-stained wooden items. The first is a turned mortar and pestle, with the mortar featuring a footed, bulbous body and a matching pestle with a rounded head. The second is a miniature decorative model of a wishing well, constructed from turned and assembled wood. The well features a circular barrel with incised lines to simulate staves, two upright supports, and a crossbar holding a non-functional pulley wheel. A fine metal chain is attached to the pulley and well body, and a small cast metal bell with a textured, brass-toned finish is suspended from the crossbar. Both pieces are finished with a uniform dark brown stain, with the well mounted on an irregular rough-hewn base. The metal components exhibit an original aged patina.
Height of wishing well: approx 155mm
Height of mortar: approx 110mm.
