A Trio of J & G Meakin Sol Ironstone Graduated Oval Serving Platters

A trio of graduated oval serving platters manufactured by J & G Meakin of Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. These pieces are constructed from white ironstone earthenware. Each platter features a transfer-printed border decoration consisting of a green and brown lattice or trellis pattern, accented with white floral sprigs and black classical-style motifs. The undersides of the platters bear printed marks in black ink featuring the characters REGD SOL 391413 arranged in an arch above a graphic of an anthropomorphic sun with facial features and radiating rays. Below the sun graphic are the words J & G MEAKIN and ENGLAND. The SOL trade mark was used by the company from approximately 1912 onwards. The number 391413 refers to the registered design for the pattern.
