Description
A pair of German porcelain vases produced by Oscar Schlegelmilch of Langewiesen, Thuringia. Each vase is designed in a squat baluster form featuring a flared, scalloped rim and a pedestal foot. The shoulders are adorned with four small scrolling loop handles. The decorative scheme comprises a hand-painted shaded green and turquoise ground with large floral blooms in shades of purple, magenta, and blue. This background is overlaid with elaborate raised slip-trailed decoration, a technique known as moriage, featuring stylised paisley motifs, scrolling foliage, and white and pale green jewelled enamelling. The underside of each base is marked with a printed symbol in brown showing a crown above a shield containing a five-pointed star.
