Description
A pair of circular bone china decorative wall plates from the Feasts and Festivals series manufactured by Wedgwood, England. Each plate features a detailed transfer-printed illustration by the artist Harry Rhodes, whose signature is incorporated into the lower right edge of the designs. The first plate, titled Midsummer’s Eve, depicts a folkloric procession of figures on horseback, including a knight in silver-coloured armour and various fairy folk, with the megaliths of Stonehenge visible in the background. The scene is framed by a border of pink floral sprigs. The second plate, titled Hallowe’en, shows a nocturnal scene of witches, goblins, and mythical creatures flying over a rural village landscape towards a fire-topped peak. This scene is bordered by dark foliage and berries. Both plates are finished with a silver-toned rim. The reverse of each plate bears the title of the work in capital letters, a descriptive paragraph regarding the specific folklore depicted, and the Wedgwood vase backstamp with the text WEDGWOOD Bone China MADE IN ENGLAND.
