Description
A large decorative specimen of carborundum, also known as synthetic silicon carbide. The specimen is formed as a dense, elongated cluster of jagged, needle-like and plate-like crystals. It features a dark, metallic black body colour with a pronounced iridescent lustre, often described as an oil slick effect, displaying vibrant flashes of violet, blue, gold, and green when viewed from different angles. Carborundum is a synthetic compound prized in mineral collections for its extreme hardness and dramatic visual appearance. It is commonly utilised as an industrial abrasive.
